Animal shelter wants locals to bleed

The Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton is asking people to “Bleed for a Cause.”

The shelter is looking to raise funds through blood donations and be given a chance to win $10,000, which will be used for a variety of purposes.

The blood challenge takes place throughout July, according to an AFHS release. For each person who donates and registers in the name of AFHS, points will be accrued. Whole blood donations are one point, Double Red donations are two points and platelet donations are three points.

A first-time Hoxworth donor will receive two bonus points, according to the AFHS.

The Animal Friends Humane Society Hoxworth Blood Drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tues., July 29 at the Butler County Board of Elections building on Princeton Road. Appointments must be made in advance.

To give blood at another time during July, donors may sign up at any Hoxworth Blood Center. Donors must tell the center when registering they are giving for Animal Friends Humane Society.

Appointments may be made at or by calling (513) 451-0910.

Donors should be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and generally feeling well and healthy.
